Sarah Jeong on why the Pixel 9’s Reimagine feature is the final nail in the coffin for trust in photos
9 Sept: I’m giving a talk for Product People on lessons about org culture
hello
It’s good to be back after a couple of weeks touring around Germany by train. The change of pace and scenery was needed — although I feel like I need another break to recover from all the exploring.
I’m straight back into the thick of it: coaching sessions resume this week. If you’re thinking about product management coaching but not sure whether it’s right for you, book in a free intro chat with me and we’ll figure it out together.
On Tuesday 9th September I’m giving a talk for Product People — the other one ;-) — Product People2 if you like. I will be talking about some of the lessons I’ve learned about organisational culture. If you’d like to join, you can sign up to attend the livestream over on LinkedIn.
For you this week #
Think about every process that relies on providing a photo as proof of something. It’s time to start thinking up a new way to provide that proof. From now on, photos can no longer be trusted.
Sarah Jeong writes for The Verge why we can no longer assume a photo is broadly true. Doctored images have existed since the dawn of photography, but always needed a healthy dose of effort and know-how. Even skilled manipulations betrayed tells.
Now, thanks to new genAI-centric phones such as Google’s Pixel 9, anyone can trivially manipulate a photo on-device without any obvious glitches or tells. Whatever trust we still placed in the veracity of photos is dead and gone. Video won’t be far behind.
Speak to you soon,
Jock
