what to think about this week

#1 Product Thinking

Product Thinking

By far the most recommended product management podcast is Melissa Perri’s.

Successful product management isn’t just about training the product managers who work side by side with developers everyday to build better products. It’s about taking a step back, approaching the systems within organizations as a whole, and leveling up product leadership to improve these systems.

This is the Product Thinking Podcast, where Melissa Perri will connect with industry leading experts in the product management space, and answer your most pressing questions about everything product. Join us each week to level up your skillset and invest in yourself as a product leader.

#2 One Knight In Product

One Knight In Product

Not far behind in recommendations is Jason Knight’s podcast.

This is a podcast aimed at people involved in designing, managing, building or marketing products.

I speak to thought leaders, authors, product leaders, practitioners and those just starting out. This is a chance to hear their stories and get some inspiration from their experience – to help you work more effectively, build better products, be a better leader and much more.

A podcast I’d not come across before, but it comes recommended by several product people.

Host Maggie Crowley, former Olympian turned Harvard MBA turned Director of Product Management at Drift, sits down with the best of the best across product management, design, and engineering to bring you lessons from product greats at Atlassian, Pluralsight, VMware, and more.

#6 The Black Box of Product Management

The Black Box of Product Management

Brandon Chu’s offering is a a relatively new podcast that he’s pivoted from his blog.

In our first episode ever, I speak with Craig Miller, the former CPO & CMO of Shopify and a company legend. He joined the company when it was worth less than $100M and 70 employees, and by the time he left it had grown to over $130 BILLION and 10k employees. He was the company’s first marketer, and then built up the growth team as it’s CMO. Mid-tenure, Craig took over the product team which he grew from 5 to 250.

Deliver It

In contrast with the one above, this product podcast started before podcasts were cool.

Deliver It is a podcast for agile Product Owners. Host Cory Bryan and guests bring their experience and ideas on how to improve the role and techniques they use to deliver value within an agile framework.

The show brings together relevant news, discussion, around a central topic and your feedback in a fun and supportive way.

The unifying principles of product management

A recent tweet by John Cutler provoked some interesting reactions. It got me thinking about whether there are unifying principles of product management that apply in all contexts.

What to do when service transformation goes wrong

When companies set out to improve a service or redesign a product, the results can sometimes be underwhelming. Instead of delivering service transformation, the team recommends only minor efficiency tweaks. If this has been happening to you, there can be many underlying causes. I’ve identified a few common problems and what you can you do about them.

The neverending quest for product-market fit

Often the biggest barrier to your product’s widespread adoption is going to be whether it reaches product-market fit early on. Even if you do, you’re wrong if you think you never need to worry about product-market fit again.

upcoming talks and events

I’ve spoken at various product management and technology conferences around the world. I share ideas primarily on the topic of product management, and this tends to overlap with agile and ethical product development, digital transformation, and fostering healthy product cultures and communities.
